Grilled Stuffed Turkey Burgers

I like burgers. Beef burgers. For some reason there is just something about the thought of eating a burger made of something other than beef that throws me off. I feel like I'm betraying the essence of what a burger is, perhaps. I don't know. Call me crazy all you want. It just feels weird.

That said, these weren't that bad. Lots of interesting ingredients, and you know I enjoyed the cheese-stuffed part.
  • 2 Tbsp onion soup mix
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 1 1/4 lb lean ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped sweet red pepper
  • 1/2 cup shredded, part-skim mozzarella cheese
  • 5 whole wheat hamburger buns
In a small bowl, combine first 5 ingredients. Crumble turkey over mixture and mix well. Shape into 10 thin patties. Spoon red pepper and cheese onto center of five patties; top with remaining patties and press edges firmly to seal.

Grill burgers, covered, over medium heat or broil 4 inches from heat for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until meat thermometer reads 165 degrees and juices run clear. Serve on buns.
