Monday Night Dinners: A commitment I made to myself when I got married in 2010. I wanted to learn more about cooking, wanted our family to commit to sitting down and eating at least one meal a week together, and wanted to make myself eat stuff I never thought I'd eat (still working on that last one).
Finding recipes that please everyone is the toughest challenge. I will admit to, at times, not telling people what is actually in a recipe until they've eaten it. Or not even telling them the full name (French "Onion" Soup for a kid who says he hates onions became "French Soup"). Hey, you all know what I'm talking about. I even have to fake myself out sometimes ("Those are not chilies in that pasta, Carolyn. They are just tiny chopped up tomatoes").
My husband, stepson and I rate the meals and decide if the recipe is an oh-my-goodness-I-want-to-bathe-in-this, a should-we-call-the-CDC-to-pick-up-this-bio-hazard, or a maybe-we-can-tweak-this-a-little-to-make-it-better recipe. I'll post recipes and photos for the ones that pass our super technical judging process and let you know how they go. And if anyone knows how to stage food, they better give me a call. Most of the time I just want to scarf it down and be done with it so making it look pretty is not an option. Hey, I never claimed to be a photographer either! Bon appetit!
