This is a well-known drink, though I don't know many people who know exactly what goes into it off the top of their heads. I know quite a few people who have it as a breakfast drink, along the lines of Mimosas, I assume because of the tomato juice included being a common breakfast juice. Doug and I have been trying to expand our drink horizons, but I must say, this won't be on the list again. I think the only ingredient I like in this drink is the alcohol. I don't even like the garnish! Doug was our taste tester and managed to drink the whole thing, but asked me never to make it for him again.
I'm sure others have a more refined drink palate than we do, and so I will include the recipe. Just know future brunches at the Martin household will not include a Bloody Mary bar.
- 2 oz vodka
- 3 oz tomato juice
- 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 dashes Tabasco sauce
- 1 dash pepper
- 1 dash celery salt
- 1/2 tsp horseradish
Shake with ice and strain into ice-filled old-fashioned glass. Garnish with a lime wedge or a celery stalk.
