- 5 cups Chex cereal
- 3/4 cup white chocolate melts or chips
- 1/4 cup chocolate melts or chips
- 2 oz cream cheese at room temperature
- 1 1/2 Tbsp milk
- 1 cup red velvet cake mix
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- festive colored candies or M&M's
- sprinkles for extra decoration
Pour cereal into a large bowl. Place cake mix and powdered sugar into a large plastic bag or tupperware with lid.
Melt chocolates in the microwave at 30-second intervals, carefully, so as not to burn, stirring frequently until smooth. Stir in cream cheese and milk (it will get much thicker, but this is ok). Pour chocolate over cereal and stir until coated.
Dump cereal into the bag with the dry ingredients and shake until coated. Dump onto a cookie sheet to cool. Mix with candies and sprinkles and serve. Store refrigerated.
NOTES: The original recipe I read used Valentine's colored M&M's and sprinkles. I wasn't about to try to find those in late spring so I picked up a big bag of regular M&M's, picked out the red and blue ones, and found some patriotic sprinkles. Works for me!
