Marbled Orange Fudge

Epic fail. Not in the taste department, but in everything else. The picture with this post is the ONLY triangle we were able to get from the pan of fudge. And even that is smooshed together and softened with water to look nice. The rest of the pan is in bits in a ziplock in my fridge.

Maybe I don't know much about making fudge, but I followed the recipe very well. The white chips wouldn't melt so I stirred and stirred....it took forever. I had to put them over heat again and even then it took a long time. Then getting it out of the pan was a nightmare. It all just crumbled!

It tastes good. Tastes like orange creamscicle. But other than that, I failed big time on this one.
  • 1 1/2 tsp plus 3/4 cup butter, divided
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 pkg (10 oz) white baking chips
  • 1 jar (7 oz) marshmallow cream
  • 3 tsp orange extract
  • 12 drops yellow food coloring
  • 5 drops red food coloring
  • green shoestring licorice, optional
Grease a 13 x 9 inch pan with 1 1/2 tsp butter; set aside. In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, cream and remaining butter. Cook and stir over low heat until sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil; cook and stir 4 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in chips and marshmallow cream until smooth.

Remove 1 cup and set aside. Add extract and food coloring to remaining mixture; stir until blended Pour into prepared pan. Drop the reserved marshmallow mixture by tablespoonfuls over top; swirl with a knife. Refrigerate until set. Cut into triangles; decorate with licorice if desired.

Makes about 2 1/2 pounds

Total time: way too long
