Italian Turkey Sliders with Honey Dijon Mayo

Liar! Improver of the truth! That's what I feel like in the kitchen sometimes. I lie to myself and I lie to the people eating my food (namely my stepson, Tyler) because sometimes I think we wouldn't try a meal if we knew what was really in it. As for me, I've never tried a turkey burger and never really wanted to. As for Tyler, he hates mayonnaise and mustard.

Mentally, I chose to block out the fact that we were eating turkey burgers instead of hamburgers and I chose to tell Tyler the spread was "sauce." See how I left out the part about it being mayonnaise? I did give him the option of trying the burger without the "sauce" first and then told him he should try at least a bite with the "sauce." He preferred the sauce. It's then that I smile and tell him what is in this mystery sauce and explain that he might like things if he opened his mind up a little bit every once in a while. Well, I learned my lesson too because these turkey burgers were amazing!
  • 20 oz lean ground turkey
  • 2 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • pepper to taste
  • 16 dinner rolls or slider rolls
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 Tbsp honey Dijon mustard
Combine mayonnaise with mustard and stir until well blended. Combine remaining ingredients. Mix together well. Shape turkey into 16 small patties. Place patties on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until cooked through. Be careful not to cook too long or they will become dried out. Once they have finished cooking, spread mayonnaise mixture on rolls and top with meat.

NOTES: I couldn't find slider rolls. I thought about using the really good Hawaiian rolls you always see at the store, but thought they might be too soft and too sweet. I opted for regular hamburger buns and made 4 regular size patties instead of 16 small patties. I cooked them for 13-15 minutes and they looked and tasted just fine.
